All 36 tools

The full list of what the AI calls behind the scenes. You do not need any of it to use the tool, but when a name shows up in an answer, look it up here. Source: the cadxray README (v0.12.1).

Tool What it does
ping Confirms the connection and the FreeCAD version
list_documents Lists open documents
get_document_graph Object tree, dependencies, problem objects. The starting point of any diagnosis
inspect_object Every property, expression and shape summary for one object
open_document / save_document Opens and saves FCStd (overwriting must be explicit)
reload_handlers Re-reads the addon code (for development)
Tool What it does
get_sketch_diagnostics Sketch solve result, degrees of freedom, conflicting and redundant constraints, open vertices
suggest_sketch_fixes Constraint fix candidates (join endpoints, missing horizontal/vertical/equal, delete redundant or conflicting, dimensions). Effect and confidence measured on a copy. Never applied automatically
apply_sketch_fixes Applies only the chosen candidates, rolling back if things get worse. Refuses if the sketch changed meanwhile
analyze_shape Shape validity, volume, face and edge makeup
tracked_recompute Before-and-after comparison of a recompute — what got fixed, what newly broke
get_screenshot 3D view PNG (iso, front, top and 9 more)
execute_code Runs Python inside FreeCAD (for edits). On the main thread, so it cannot be interrupted
Tool What it does
import_step Imports STEP/IGES with a part summary
find_holes Hole diameter, centre, depth and through-ness; counterbores, countersinks and chamfers; patterns and pitch; ISO metric thread estimates
check_interference Minimum distance and interference volume per part pair (3,160 pairs across 80 parts in 6.5 seconds)
get_mass_properties Volume, surface area, centre of gravity, inertia; mass from density; ground contact and tipping angle; assembly totals
Tool What it does
classify_faces Per-face identity (plane, cylinder, cone, sphere, free-form), main axis, band heights, radii, rebuild verdict
section_profile The section outline at a height, as sketch elements (lines, arcs, circles). Accepts meshes too
build_features Stacks sketches plus Pad/Pocket/Groove/Revolution/Fillet/Chamfer/Helix in order, verifying each feature. Dimensions go into the Params spreadsheet
compare_shapes Volume, area and bbox differences plus the locations of the difference fragments. Ray deviation for meshes
align_shapes The rigid transform between two instances of the same part (for Link placement). Detects mirror images
import_mesh Brings STL/OBJ/PLY/3MF in as a transparent reference mesh; checks closure and self-intersection
analyze_mesh A mesh’s main axis, bands, section circles, threads (pitch, major diameter, root, handedness) and verdict
Tool What it does
make_drawing A TechDraw page: front/right/top/isometric/detail views, dimensions, notes, title block → PDF/SVG
inspect_drawing Reads the page’s views, dimension values and notes; finds empty views and broken dimensions
Tool What it does
check_printability Checks thin walls, overhangs, small and horizontal holes, bed fit and adhesion against a material, nozzle and bed profile → score, problems, fix candidates
estimate_print Material volume, weight, filament length, time and cost
suggest_orientation Scores print orientation candidates and applies the one you pick
apply_print_fixes Elephant-foot chamfer, hole diameter compensation, teardrops, thickening, overhang wedges, splitting parts that exceed the bed
Tool What it does
setup_analysis Material plus fixed faces plus loads plus a Gmsh mesh plus CalculiX, in one call. Multiple parts and natural frequencies
run_analysis Static solve → maximum stress and where, displacement, safety factor, colour map. Per-mode Hz for frequency
inspect_results Top stress and displacement nodes, per-face maxima, colour map switching
suggest_reinforcement Thickness, fillet, rib, material and load candidates when the safety factor falls short
trace_links The chain of Links pointing at other files, broken links, and errors in the linked documents

Every response is size-capped JSON, so the conversation does not blow up on a model with hundreds of objects.
